Job Description:
The Repair Technician evaluates damaged merchandise and determines the cost effectiveness of recommended fixes, then efficiently carries out all duties for repair and refurbishment of musical instruments according to established quality and time guidelines. Other duties, assignments, and specific projects may be assigned at the discretion of executive management.
- Successfully fulfills duties and responsibilities with regular supervision
- Conducts performance tests on instruments to evaluate their sound quality and to locate defects
- Disassembles/reassembles instruments and parts for repair and adjustment
- Inspects, repairs, and adjusts returned instruments prior to re-stock
- Repairs and reconditions used and trade-in instruments as required
- Grades instruments appropriately for used inventory
- Polishes instruments using rags and polishing compounds, buffing wheels, or burnishing tools
- Maintains accurate records for production reporting
- Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
- Certificate from an accredited Musical Instrument Repair School and/or 6 months minimum hands-on training preferred
- Skilled understanding and function of one or all brass, woodwind, percussion, and orchestral instruments preferred
- Shows eagerness to learn and improve Repair Technician skillsets through repetition and under close supervision
- Able to effectively follow instruction from other Repair Techs and shop manager; can apply knowledge and lessons learned
- Self-motivated; able to work independently when necessary to meet production goals
Physical Demand and Work Effort
- Able to work in a Distribution Center warehouse environment
- Keying/typing, sitting, standing, walking
- Constant mental and/or visual attention; the work is either repetitive or diversified requiring constant alertness in an office environment
- The job is typically performed under comfortable working conditions; any disagreeable elements are generally absent during normal performance of the job
- While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel; occasionally required to stand, reach with hands and arms, lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus
- While performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
- Can work with or near chemicals and/or cleaning solvent
